A FEW terrifying seconds brought three young Warrnambool adults perilously close to being fatality statistics on the road toll.
The car they were travelling home in this week after a music concert in Melbourne flipped five times, missed several trees by centimetres and landed upside down in a roadside ditch near Cressy.
Bruised and traumatised they scrambled free from the wreck in midnight blackness and called for help.
They were taken by ambulance to Geelong hospital and released several hours later to nurse their wounds at home.
“For a moment we didn’t think we’d survive,” 19-year-old Dani Miller told The Standard yesterday.
“It happened in a matter of seconds.
“It was terrifying and left us pretty traumatised and shocked.
“The car skidded and rolled, landing 20 metres from the road.”
Ms Miller said she sustained head injuries while a 20-year-old male and a 20-year-old female received back and neck injuries. They have taken a week off work to recuperate.
The accident happened about 12.45am on Tuesday on the Hamilton Highway near Cressy.
Ms Miller said it was on a section where roadworks were under way and the bitumen had been removed.
“They car just skidded sideways then rolled,” she recalled.
“It was a huge reminder to be extra careful when driving.
“You never know what’s ahead.”
Bannockburn police attended and are investigating.
