The 24-year-old said his night went to plan, finishing second in his first heat – having started in third – before climbing from 10th to fourth in the second and maintaining the lead throughout his final heat.
The results saw him starting out of third for the A-main in the high-quality field.
“I dropped back to fourth after the first couple of laps and then I changed my line and went up a bit higher,” he said.
