The ladder leaders disposed of Camperdown by 87 runs at D.C. Farran Oval on Saturday, making 6-233 despite losing a couple of wickets early in the day.
Openers Josh Barr (11 runs) and Tyler Schafer (21) both made starts, but could not go on with them, while number three bat Shane Slater was out for eight.
Sitting on about 2-70 at the halfway mark of their innings, the Cats piled on another 160 in the remaining 25 overs.
Captain Todd Lamont made 75, while teenager Lachie Wareham continued his good form with a knock of 57.
Neil Kelly was unbeaten on 39 as past players watched on at Mortlake’s premiership reunion day.
“With wickets in hand, we were able to build into a bit of a score,” Lamont said.
“We lost a couple of early wickets, but (it was) not too bad, and we set a pretty good platform.
“We got 230 on the board and we were quite happy with that, that was about the score I thought we needed.”
Camperdown scrapped together 146 in reply, with just two players – Jye McLaughlin (64 not out) and Troy McLaughlin (44) reaching double figures.
The pair put on 76 runs in a hard-running fourth-wicket partnership, with just one boundary hit between them.
“The left-hand/right-hand combination always helps,” Jye said.
“We just nudged it around, tried to turn the good balls into runs, too.”
McLaughlin praised the efforts of Camperdown’s bowlers, saying they did well to restrict a team of Mortlake’s calibre to the score they did.
Shane Wilson and captain Mitch McLaughlin both took two wickets.
For Mortlake, Todd Robertson took 2-18 off 10 overs, while Georgia Wareham and Kyle McDonald took three wickets apiece.
In other matches, Fraser Lucas smashed 144 runs as Bookaar defeated Noorat by seven wickets at Camperdown Showgrounds, with the Pelicans making 6-392 in response to Noorat’s 162.
Earlier, Henry Green snared 4-26 for Bookaar, while Nick Kenna was Noorat’s best with the bat, making an unbeaten 77.
Terang snuck past Heytesbury for a final-over three-wicket win at Terang Turf. Simon Harkness made 78 not out as the Rebels posted 5-191, but an unbeaten 77 from veteran Tim Keane guided the home side to 7-194. Rebel Paul Vogels took 3-21 while Liam Geary was Terang’s best, taking 2-25.
