Wannon Water crews responded, working to isolate the site, out the front of Rafferty’s Tavern bottle shop, while water bubbled and spilled onto the highway and service lane.
West-bound traffic was not disrupted in the deluge which caused the ground on top of the water main to lift and a One Way traffic sign to sink a metre into a large water-filled hole.
Water continued to flow down the service lane, onto the highway and into the service lane in front of the former Mitre 10 site, while crews worked to rectify the situation.
