The double-header will be the surf sports team’s first major event this summer, with a carnival on Saturday followed by state qualifiers on Sunday.
“They’ve been going pretty well – most of them have been training since last September, three times a week,” Kilpatrick said.
“They’ve been putting in a good effort this year. Hopefully it pays off for them.”

Kilpatrick said the youngsters would compete in individual and team events, including ironman, board rescue, board relay and wave relay, among others.
In keeping with strong junior numbers at the club, the nippers group will take a team of 62 this weekend, ranging in age groups from under nines to under 14s.
Kilpatrick said this weekend will be good preparation for the state titles, which will be held in Warrnambool on March 13 and 14.
“We’ve (also) got Lorne in two weeks’ time, so hopefully we get another crew down there to hone their skills a little better,” he said.
“The kids should be proud of their efforts so far, they’ve been training for so long.”
