Green defeated Warrnambool and District 58-40, but coach Louise Chow said the girls had to work hard for the win.
“It started off pretty level, the first half was really quite close and it was only in the second half that we were a bit stronger and got away a little bit,” she said.
Chow said Warrnambool and District played well in the the third quarter – it won the term 13-9 – but a strong finish from Hampden Green saw her side prevail by 18, shooting 17 goals to nine in the last quarter.
She praised the efforts of Zoe Bussell – who moved to an unfamiliar position in goals when Taylah Nelson went off injured – midcourter Katie Zeunurt and goal keeper Charlotte Delaney.
In the other match, Hampden White defeated Warrnambool City 40-34.
