Reihana Thomas Heremaia, 29, previously of Baileyanna Drive, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to attempting to traffic ecstasy and other drug and bail offences. Additional to a 12-month community corrections order, Heremaia was fined $3800.
The Standard had agreed not to disclose circumstances of the kidnapping while police conducted investigations.
Police told the court they had now identified the alleged offenders and one had been charged.
Police withdrew charges relating to crimes committed while Heremaia had a gun held to his head.
They told the court that Heremaia was kidnapped on December 14 over a $6000 drug debt.
He contacted his partner and demanded money, saying he was being threatened with a gun. His partner contacted police, which led to an intense investigation.
Police allege Heremaia went to an address in Dennington's Tylden Street where he stole a black Toyota worth about $30,000.
Police found Heremaia driving east along the Warrnambool-Cobden Road.
They followed Heremaia at a distance through Cobden to Colac, where he was arrested and a small amount of ice found.
Defence counsel Belinda Northey said until mid-last year, Heremaia had been employed at a meat works but he had started usually ice socially which led to him going off the rails.
She said he had a new job as a butcher in Melbourne, his partner was employed and they had family support.
Heremaia has spent eight days in custody.
Magistrate Ron Saines said Heremaia had a considerable history of offending.
"You have now removed yourself from criminal elements in the Warrnambool district and people who were trying to cause you a good deal of harm due to your drug debt," he said.
