In a letter to the editor, published in Saturday’s The Standard, Cr Sycopoulis said it was a role that could sometimes be daunting and requires a commitment and sacrifice.
“For me the role is about doing the best for my city,” Cr Sycopoulis said.
“It’s not about personal profile or political ambition and this allows me to represent my community without fear or favour.”
He encouraged fresh faces to nominate for November’s election, saying it was a “golden opportunity” to put back into the community.
“I hope that prospective candidates who become elected would share my belief they are not there just to rubber stamp decisions,” Cr Sycopoulis said.

“I believe that it would be invaluable if those who propose to nominate could attend council meetings regularly.
“That way all successful candidates are aware of current issues, they understand the dynamic of council and hit the ground running.”
