CFA Rostered duty officer Richard Bourke said it was believed the owner’s car had rolled into the house causing damage to a power cable in a wall cavity.
He said the fire started while the owner was inside the house assessing some minor injuries.
Mr Bourke said the fire was well involved when the first brigade arrived.
“Because Hawkesdale doesn’t have reticulated water we had ten trucks attend and Moyne Shire also brought a tank of water,” he said.
Mr Bourke said crews remained at the scene to cool the burnt out house but there was no risk to any nearby property.
