Emergency services were called to an address in Hamilton in August last year after a report that a child was seriously ill.
The infant boy was taken to the Hamilton Base Hospital where he died at 3.50am.
A police spokeswoman confirmed homicide squad detectives were investigating the death. The boy's mother and her partner assisted police with their inquiries last year.
