Planned burn near Casterton today

THE Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has alerted Casterton residents and passing motorists there will be a planned burn near the town this afternoon.

The Richardsons Track controlled burn is planned to cover about 165 hectares of bushland 18 kilometres south-west of Casterton.

Smoke may be visible in the township of Casterton, as well as surrounding areas including Bahgallah, Sandford, Lake Mundi, Corndale and Strathdownie.

The DSE and Parks Victoria planned burn aims to reduce the risk of bushfire to nearby people, property and communities. 

If affected by smoke from planned burns, the Department of Health advises to seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.

The DSE warned motorists smoke could cause low visibility hazards to motorists, making it important to obey all signs in place to slow traffic, as well as instructions from fire agency crews near the burn.

Access to walking tracks, car parks, camping grounds and picnic sites in areas close to or in burn areas may be restricted
