Corangamite Shire’s environment and emergency manager Lyall Bond said the region was still in the grips of dry conditions and residents in fire risk areas should plan to leave early in the event of a fire.
“Fire danger rating and warnings can be a great guide to use as a trigger to leave based on the risk level and your property preparedness,” he said.
“Remember that if you live in a high risk area and are not fully prepared, leaving early is always the safest option.”
Mr Bond said planning and decisions needed to be done early.
“Other considerations are, what to take with you, what to do with your animals, where to go, do I or a family member need help leaving, if you stay and defend, are you prepared, when it’s too late to leave and what is my back up plan?” he said.
