 Janita Cunnington's mother Esther Roland was the writer of the family. Roland wrote television scripts for the ABC during the 1950s, and published a book I Camp Here in 1948, taking second place in the Sydney Morning Herald Novel Prize behind Ruth Park's Harp in the South.
