The iconic festival which began on the back of a truck in 1977 has swelled to become an annual Port Fairy pilgrimage for music lovers and performers, both nationally and abroad.
Festival ticketing manager Shane Lenehan said organisers were pleased with the response from patrons.
“I think it’s a combination of the 40th event and as people become aware that it’s Jamie’s last festival the public want to show their appreciation and say their farewell at his last year as director,” he said.
Musicians to feature in this year’s line up include Archie Roach, Mary Black,
Festival regulars Ash Grunwald and Kate Miller-Heidke, plus Irish artists Luka Bloom, Róisín O, and The Rambling Boys.
Local acts included in the line-up are with Celtic group Dalriada, The Howard Family (featuring Shane, Marcia and Damian), zydeco act Hog Stompin’ Zydegators, Warrnambool singer-songwriter Tom Richardson and country covers band Lost In Suburbia.
The 40th Folkie is on March 11-14.
