The association has named a potent batting line-up, but also has a solid bowling attack at its disposal, according to coach Ray Drew.
He said Hank Schlaghecke will be Warrnambool’s number-one bowler, backed up by Coby Dudman.
“For our medium pacers, we have a number of options – Brett Eldridge, Jeremy Burgess, Nathan Murphy, Mark Murphy,” he said.
Slow bowlers Matt Brophy and Kyle Humphrys will also slot into the bowling line-up.
South West Cricket will be trying to rediscover what it takes to win at country week, after it was relegated to division two following a win-less 2015 campaign.
Captain Todd Lamont said while the players simply want to win more games, they also have ambitions of being a contender again.
“Our goal is just to try to make the final and see how we go, just take it day-by-day,” he said.
“The number-one aim is just to win Monday and see where we go from there.”
Lamont was hopeful taking a quality young team to the tournament would give it an edge in the field.
“Hopefully there’s a lot of enthusiasm and we’ll just try to pick the fielding up,” he said.
South West will rely on its strong batting line-up to give it momentum during the week. There will be a mix of experience and the next generation, with the likes of Lamont, Dave Murphy and Travis Brown being joined by Bookaar pair Fraser Lucas and Henry Green, among others.
Green (490 runs), Lamont (478) and Lucas (419) have been the top three run-scorers in division one this summer and will need to carry their form into country week.
“We’ve only got six front-line bowlers each day – we usually have seven or eight bowlers in the team,” Lamont said.
“We’ve got a couple of good spinners and hopefully they can do the job for us.”
