Warrnambool overtook Portland Coasters in the second half to win 75-71, while Mount Gambier Lakers clung on for a 71-70 win over Colac Kookas.
Seahawks coach Matt Alexander said Saturday night’s game at the Arc was a tough contest befitting two top-four sides.
“It wasn’t pretty. We played tough D (defence), took opportunities when they arose,” he said.
The Seahawks’ gutsy determination was epitomised by Liam Killey, who played on after spraining his ankle early in the game.
Portland led throughout the first half before Warrnambool muscled its way on top oin the third quarter.
Six free throws made by Lachie Rhook late in the game secured a four-point victory for the home team.
