Warrnambool Stock Agents Association president Anthony Mahony said the feature female sale had been very successful.
“The highlights were the 20 Jarlyn Park Angus heifers sold for $1990, which were previously tested and calving into February.
“There were 15 Dunleath Park Angus heifers that made $1850 and there was also an exceptionally good run of grown steers.
“They were from 480kg to 580kg and made up to 301 cents, while the best of the weaners made $3.21.
“There was an outstanding run of grown heifers, which sold exceptionally well. They were up to $3, which is very solid competition.”
Mr Mahony said it was a return to the saleyards’ monthly store sales after numerous weaner sales in recent months.
“We haven’t had a genuine store sale with grown steers like this since the end of November,” he said.
“It compares extremely favourably with the way the season’s been progressing.

“Farmers need to be congratulated on the way they’ve been able to keep their cattle in such good condition. With the way the season has gone, they’ve been handsomely rewarded.
“The next big monthly store sale is on February 26.”
Port Fairy hobby farmers Craig and Michele Fox sold 16 black Angus steers at 3.01/kg at an average of 483kg.
Mr Fox said their children Zara, 8, and Bree, 11, joined them at the saleyards to experience the process.
“We thought we’d bring the kids over while they’re on holidays,” he said.
“We were advised the prices are up and it’s a good time to get rid of them because it’s so dry.
“We’ll probably wait a bit (to buy more cattle) because its so dry at our place. We’ll wait for a bit of rain.”
Terang vendor Peter Moloney sold 12 Hereford steers at an average of 528kg for $2.87/kg – a strong improvement on last January’s store sale.
“I’m really happy with the sales,” he said.
“It’s about $400 to $500 up on last year.”
