Wood was one of two new players elevated to the leadership group, alongside young star Marcus Bontempelli.
The appointment comes just months after Wood took out the Bulldog’s best-and-fairest award, the Charles Sutton Medal, capping a watershed season for the defender and his team.
Wood played 22 of a possible 23 games and led the league for intercept marks as the Dogs emerged as the surprise packet of 2015. He averaged nearly 18 disposals and seven marks a game and was selected on the half-back line of the 2015 AFL All-Australian team.
Bob Murphy will again captain the Dogs in 2016, with veterans Matthew Boyd and Dale Morris completing the five-man leadership group voted in by the playing group.
