THE south-west is gearing up to celebrate Australia Day tomorrow with official activities planned to mark the occasion.

A free breakfast will be held at Hawkesdale Memorial Hall from 8am, while a free BBQ will be held at Casterton from 8am followed by a flag-raising ceremony at 9am at Island Park.
Portland will also host a free breakfast and flag-raising ceremony at Memorial Triangle from 8am which will be attended by Australia Day ambassador Bruce Bonyhady.
Mr Bonyhady, who is president of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, will also attend a flag-raising ceremony at Heywood at 11.30am which will be followed by a free BBQ on the banks of the Fitzroy River.
Penshurst will host a breakfast at the botanic gardens from 8.30am followed by a flag-raising ceremony and awards presentation.
Warrnambool’s Duncan Stalker, who was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 1998, will be the Australia Day ambassador at Hamilton’s celebrations. Hamilton’s official celebrations will kick off at 10:30am at the botanic gardens and includes award presentations, citizenship ceremony and entertainment.
Moyne Shire will hold its Australia Day celebrations at the Panmure Recreation Reserve from 11am with an awards and citizenship ceremony. Stella Axarlis AM will be guest speaker at the event which includes a free BBQ.
In Warrnambool, a flag-lowering ceremony will be held at the war memorial from 3.30pm and includes a performance from the Warrnambool pipes and drums band. A welcome to country and flag-raising ceremony will be held at Warrnambool’s Botanic Gardens from 10.30am, followed by an address by Australia Day ambassador and TV personality Tonia Todman. Citizenship and awards presentations will be held followed by children’s entertainment, live music and performances from the Holiday Actors.
Port Fairy will host Australia Day activities on the town’s Fiddlers Green throughout the day as part of the Moyneyana Festival.
Camperdown’s Australia Day celebrations will be held at the Theatre Royal between 10am and 2pm where award winners will be announced. Opera singer Emily Burke will be keynote speaker.
A free breakfast and flag-raising ceremony will be held at 8.30am at the Byaduk Sports Pavilion featuring guest speaker Leading Senior Constable David Rook.
