In the quarter-finals of the women’s event, Noelene Richards (Timboon) defeated Kate Lloyd (City Memorial) 25 -23, Gill Vorwerk (Warrnambool) defeated Marj Fisher (Lawn Tennis) 25-9, Kellie Bowles (Koroit) defeated Gayle Taylor (Dennington) 25-22 and Carol Cardwell (Terang) defeated Anne Van Diemen (Mortlake) 25-13.
The men’s championship had three withdrawals, leaving only six bowlers to compete in the event. Semi-finals winners were Kevin Boyd (Warrnambool) over Brian Lenehan (Koroit) 2-8 and David Wells (City Memorial) over Bill Dooley (Lawn Tennis) 25-7.
The semi-finals in the women’s competition and both finals will be played on Sunday, again at the Warrnambool club.
In division one last Saturday City Memorial Red triumphed over Terang Green, winning two rinks and drawing the other two.
Every rink win will be important for the top four sides with the double chance up for grabs over the last four weeks of the regular season.
Dennington Bowls Club is holding the preliminary rounds of its men’s and women’s B grade singles championships on Sunday at 9.30am.
