Forward Jackson Hollmer and defender Sam Rudolph played a combined eight games in Seagulls’ colours last season, including their first final in 10 years.
Hollmer has committed to Port Fairy full-time after retiring from the VFL following a distinguished career with Geelong.
Former Seagulls coach Rudolph, who arrived at Gardens Oval from SANFL club Glenelg three years ago, has recovered fully from shoulder surgery which all but wiped out his 2015 season.
Port Fairy mentor Brett Evans said the pair would strengthen the Seagulls’ best 18.
“Sam only played three games for the year – two home and away and one final – and Jackson played five so they are basically two great recruits for us,” he said.
Hollmer is recovering from shoulder surgery which prompted him to call time on his nine-year career with Geelong.
Evans said the Seagulls would take a cautious approach with his recovery.
“It’s great to have him for a full year. He is coming back from shoulder surgery and he probably thought it is time to give the VFL away,” he said.
“He is loving his time at Port Fairy. He is travelling but is hoping he can train on a Thursday night which would be excellent for the all boys.”
Evans said Hollmer was adaptable and would play a variety of positions for the Seagulls, who are out to avenge the elimination final loss to Terang Mortlake.
“Someone of his ability is a bit like Dan Nicholson… he can play forward and onball,” he said.
“He is very versatile and fast on his feet so when he’s forward he moves around a lot and creates a lot for us.
“He will help Robbie Hare out massively I reckon. He might take the number one defender and then Robbie will get an easier run from time to time.”
East Warrnambool recruit Blake Rudland-Castles is earmarked for a small forward role.
“He’s a small forward and another midfielder as well and looks like he’s ready to take the next step,” Evans said.
