The newest Blue, who coached Mininera and District club Woorndoo Mortlake last year, will take on an assistant coaching role at his new club, said he was happy to lessen his load to ensure he gave his best on the field.
“I’ll just be able to play my own game and really concentrate on getting back into the rucking form I had back at Camperdown,” he said.
Moloney – who has experience in the Hampden league, Northern Territory Football League and also played amateur football in Adelaide – said the Blues won him over after just two training sessions.
“I was just really impressed with how they trained and how everyone got along (in the first session), and I went back for another training and once again was really impressed,” he said.
“They had really good numbers and it was just good fun.”
New Nirranda coach Shane Threlfall said the Blues were thrilled to have an experienced ruckman of Moloney’s calibre on board.
“Big guys are hard to hard to come by, especially big, powerful guys like Heath,” he said.
“When I took on the job (at Nirranda) they said they’ve got a couple of guys who did well in the ruck, but they reckoned we needed a ruckman, and that releases the other guys to play in other positions.
“There’s always the opportunity for those guys to go back into the ruck and Heath can go forward (if we need).”
