He hopes to get into the A-main among what is shaping as a large, quality field of drivers in Simpson Speedway’s 410 sprintcar round.
“I’d like to win it, that’s for sure, but there’s probably 30-odd others thinking the same. You need a bit of luck – it’s a tight track,” he said.
Vogels said he was looking forward to racing on the resurfaced Simpson track in what will be a busy weekend for the 46-year-old, who is also racing at Avalon on Saturday night.
But he is happy with how his form is tracking so far in a season that already features a second-placed finish behind the in-form Jamie Veal.
“We’ve crashed a bit, but when we’ve been finishing, we’re finishing well,” he said.
More than 30 starters are expected for the 410 sprintcars. In what will be one of the biggest nights of the season for the venue, Simpson Speedway has also attracted 34 drivers from across four states for the launch of the Formula 500s Speedweek.
