Warrnambool woman Sheila O'Keefe will cheer on grandson Ryan O'Keefe when his Swans take on Hawthorn this Saturday.
THE Warrnambool grandmother of Sydney onballer Ryan O’Keefe will cheer from her lounge room as the veteran Swan attempts to win a premiership.
Sheila O’Keefe said she was “pretty excited” her grandson could win his second flag in eight years when the Swans take on Hawthorn at the MCG.
Ms O’Keefe will watch Saturday’s grand final at home with her daughter, riding every bump Ryan takes on the grand final stage.
“Since he’s gone up there we’ve followed his career,” she said.
“I look for him all the time, he’s a pretty good player.
“He’s pretty strong and runs all day.
“I’m quite proud of him.”
Ms O’Keefe said Ryan’s father, former Fitzroy footballer Brian, had been in hospital this week but would not miss the decider. I’ve been speaking to his father, he’s pretty excited,” she said.
“His father isn’t well, he’s been in hospital but he’s coming home tomorrow.”
Ryan enters the grand final on the back of one of his best games of the season.
The 31-year-old had 34 disposals, took five marks and laid 11 tackles in the Swans’ 26-point win against Collingwood in the preliminary final.
He has averaged 25 disposals a game and has kicked 20 goals.
