The 2012 Hampden league grand final has set a new gate takings record — by close to $10,000.
HFNL president Bob Guiney yesterday confirmed the bumper day at Reid Oval on Saturday had raised close to $60,000.
The figure smashes the old record of about $50,000, set in 2007 when Koroit defeated Cobden in the senior football.
Guiney said perfect spring weather and an even spread of clubs represented in the nine football and netball finals contributed to the result.
Warrnambool defeated Cobden to win the senior football flag, while Koroit outclassed Warrnambool in the A grade netball.
“We were just blessed on a marvelous day,” Guiney said. “Every club bar Port Fairy won a flag on the day.
“It was a beautiful day.”
