Weir has the well-fancied Profit Share in Thursday’s $45,000 Port Fairy Cup at Warrnambool, while O'Leary accepted with his veteran galloper Evenmoreaction.
O'Leary said he respected Weir's runner but Evenmoreaction was ready to run a forward race in the 1400-metre feature on the eight-race program.
"Weir's stable is flying but punters should not take Evenmoreaction too lightly," he said.
"Profit Share is the one to beat.
“He's had three runs from a spell and has the claim for an apprentice but I reckon I'll be in the finish.
“Evenmoreaction has a pretty good first up record.
“I thought about putting a claiming apprentice on him then I thought Linda Meech understands him well so I stayed with Linda."
Evenmoreaction will be aimed at the Woodford Cup at Warrnambool on December 27 after his Port Fairy Cup run, according to O'Leary.
"Evenmoreaction has been a great old horse for the stable,” he said.
“I reckon we'll go down the Woodford Cup path.
“He's nine-year-old and won more than $350,000 in stakemoney.
"I still think there's a couple more wins in him.
“He's a big strong horse who is really fit.
“I think he should have a good campaign."
The Ballarat-based Weir’s 15 cup wins for 2015 include Melbourne, Donald, Hamilton, Warrnambool, Terang, Ararat, Stawell and Murtoa.
The Port Fairy Cup will be run at 4.55pm. A healthy crowd is expected to attend the meeting.
