Coomber, 16, won the Forrest Mountain Bike Festival under 19 section on Sunday.
His victory in the 90-kilometre race – split over two days – bettered the sixth place finish he recorded 12 months ago.
He led the way in all five stages.
“I went better than I thought I would,” Coomber said.
“I did a lot of personal bests.
“It was a nice course with a couple of hills in it.”
Coomber rides his road bike from his Koroit home to Hawkesdale P-12 College at least twice a week as part of his training regime.
But it’s on a mountain bike where he sees his future.
The Warrnambool Mountain Bike Club member is now eyeing the 2016 Otway Odyssey. He finished second in the under 16 section this year.
