The Warrnambool-based provider of community support services to families and people with disabilities was formed in 1975, after a small group of local families of children with disabilities joined forces to overcome a lack of support.
Initially known as the South West Region Support Group for the Handicapped and later the South West ACCESS Network (SWAN), Mpower has grown from a one-person operation to an agency employing 64 staff, providing services to more than 800 clients and families.
Mpower CEO Kerry Nelson said the growth had given Mpower a platform of strength in the community.
