Organiser Barry Roycroft said the 80-centimetre introductory class had opened up the event to a new range of competitors, including a number of local pony club members.
“As a result we’re building 25 new jumps to cater for them,” he said.
The event, which runs from Thursday to Sunday, will welcome international judges from India, New Zealand and Japan.
Roycroft said Olympians Megan Jones and Wendy Schaeffer would also make their way to the Lakes Sporting Complex to compete.
“Our total entries are consistent, so we’re happy (with that), but we’re disappointed we haven’t got many entries in our senior classes,” he said.
“There’s a new event in New South Wales and the Adelaide International was last weekend (which lowered numbers for Camperdown).
“However, we have got very good junior and young rider numbers. We’ve got 200 horses in the lower grades.”
Dressage will be held at the arena on Thursday and Friday, with cross country set for Saturday and showjumping on Sunday.
