Two people have made a lucky escape after their car plunged about 20 metres off the side off a road in the Dandenong Ranges.
A 49-year-old local driver lost control of the car on the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road about 8.30pm last night.
The car veered off the road near Devil's Elbow, plunging down the embankment.
More than 50 police and fire rescue personnel were reportedly on the scene as the pair were cut from the wreckage and winched to safety.
A police spokeswoman said the man and his 25-year-old female passenger were taken to the Alfred Hospital with minor injuries.
A dog reported to be in the car at the time escaped uninjured.
