The Woodford wicket-keeper batsman will represent Victoria at the Cricket Victoria under 15 championships in Brisbane next year.
Jackson, 14, spent the winter fine-tuning his craft, venturing down to the indoor cricket centre on Mortlake Road with friends and training with Victorian Premier Cricket clubs Geelong and Carlton.
That preparation helped him consolidate his spot in the Eels’ Warrnambool and District Cricket Association division one team.
Selection for the Western Waves’ under 16 team for January’s state championships followed.
The Victorian call-up was an added bonus for the cricket-mad teenager.
“I didn’t think I was much chance, to be honest,” Jackson said.
“I was at school when I found out and it was pretty exciting.
“I got an email which came up on my phone.
“Hopefully I can score some runs.”
Jackson’s nights are filled with cricket – be it practice or games.
He juggles under 15 and under 17 games with senior commitments.
But the chance to improve spurs the Warrnambool College student on.
“I love it,” he said.
“I go down to the nets with Dad and Houta (John Houston) helps me out a fair bit.
“I am working on my keeping a fair bit and my technique with my batting.
“I work it around, don’t have much power. It’s about ones and twos.”
Jackson is one of three Western Waves in the 13-player Victorian team.
Tyrendarra’s Jordi Withers and Dunkeld’s Lachie Field were also selected.
They have played together at state level.
Jackson said Withers and Field were strong players.
“Lachie is the best to watch when he’s batting,” he said.
“And he is good with his off-spin.
“Jordi rotates the strike well.”
The national championships are in Brisbane from February 20 to 28.
The trio join Western Waves’ Rosie Wynd (under 15s), Liam Brown and Lachie Wareham (under 17s) and Georgia Wareham, Claire Nolte, Nick King and Gus Boyd (under 18s) to make Victorian sides this summer.
