Three charter flights left the Warrnambool Airport just after 5.30pm, taking 18 CFA members from Districts 5 and 6 to the fire ground, about an hour north of Adelaide. Tankers and support vehicles left earlier.
District 5 operations manager Richard Bourke thanked the south-west volunteers for putting their hands up at short notice.
“Look after each other and do us proud,” Mr Bourke said.
The fires have claimed two lives and destroyed 22 significant buildings. More than 300 personnel from Victoria are expected to join the fire fight over the coming days.
