The Knights are in fifth place on the ladder, just four points from top side Woodford. A talented brigade of young stars has the Knights as one of the most exciting combinations in the competition. Teenagers Brody Couch, Tyler Mungean and Damon Cooper are all making an impact. Couch has scored 228 at an average of 57, Mungean is opening the batting and bowling first-change and Cooper has played all six games in his first season out of under 15s.
The Knights are up against Dennington in round seven and coach Jason Mungean is buoyant by their progress.
“With the young blokes we encourage them to enjoy their cricket and if they have a bad day then so be it,” Mungean said.
“We are still playing our home games on the hard wicket which means our young blokes play on a variety of surfaces so hopefully they learn a bit more with each game.”
In other Merri conference round seven games, Woodford plays Nestles and East Warrnambool-YCW hosts Russells Creek. In Hopkins conference, Allansford is up against Brierly-Christ Church, Port Fairy plays Wesley-CBC and West Warrnambool meets Merrivale.
