The CFA was called by staff who reported a hydrogen sulfide smell at 3.30pm.
Two Warrnambool CFA units attended and found a blocked sewer underneath the school’s science wing.
About 10 staff were evacuated from the Grafton Road building.
A CFA spokesman said the officers conducted atmospheric monitoring to make sure the area was safe for staff to return.
A plumbing contractor was called to unblock the sewer.
UPDATE 4.30pm: Warrnambool CFA was called to the college after a report of a hazardous material.
Operations officer for district five Henry Barton said it was believed there had been a leak of hydrogen sulfide.
Mr Barton said the CFA was still investigating where the leak originated.
He said about ten teachers were evacuated from the school and 20 fire fighters were on scene.
12.20pm: A police media spokesperson said the situation had been declared safe following a search of the area by officers.
“The students have resumed school,” she said.
UPDATE 12.10pm: The lockdown is over and students are returning to their classrooms.
A message over the college’s intercom to students officially ended the evacuation.
UPDATE 11.45am: Police are on scene and completing a full sweep of the area in response to a bomb threat at Warrnambool College.

Warrnambool police said the school was evacuated after a bomb threat.
Police said the school was following its evacuation protocol.
The Standard understands all students were evacuated and are safe on the school’s tennis courts after the threat was received about 11am.
