About 70 grade 3 to 6 pupils took part in the Yachting Victoria program that focused on water safety.
Koroit primary school staff member and Warrnambool Yacht Club member Glenda Allen said the children enjoyed learning to sail.
“They’re absolutely loving it,” Ms Allen said. “They’re getting an experience sailing that they wouldn’t otherwise get.”
The pupils set sail in small opti boats, guiding them through a figure of eight course. Ms Allen said it was the first time the Yachting Victoria program has been held in Warrnambool.
Budding young sailors will have another chance to hit the water when the Kids Learn To Sail with Tackers program is held in Warrnambool from January 11 to 15.
The program is aimed at children aged seven to 12. To enroll visit www.theboatshed.net.au
