“I’m hoping to at least be competitive,” he said.
The Ballarat-based sprinter rose to prominence when he took out the 2012 Stawell Gift. He made the trip to Warrnambool for its return in 2013, but has missed huge chunks of the past two seasons thanks to a horror run of injuries.
Broken bones, injured tendons and muscles have relegated Wiltshire to observer status.
But with plenty of strength and conditioning training, he said he was ready to tackle the open 70-metre and 100-metre events.
“Warrnambool will be my first gift for pretty much two years,” he said.
“My main aim for this weekend will be the 70, try to make the final for that.
“With the gift, I’ll be happy to go through the heats and just be competitive.”
A number of high-quality sprinters will join Wiltshire in the men’s field, including 2010 Stawell Gift runner-up Dale Woodhams and two-time finalist Joshua Tiu. Craig Mair, who won the Albury Wodonga and Ballarat gifts last season, will also make the trip to Warrnambool.
I'm looking forward to coming down and getting back into the Gift atmopshere
