The field day will be led by Jim Green from BeefXcel who will explain the Beef Class Structural Assessment System.
The Beef Class Structural Assessment System measures claw set, front and rear foot angle, rear legs, and for females – teats and udders as well.
Mr Green will assess Te Mania’s autumn sale bulls.at the field day.
The Te Mania Angus herd has been independently assessed for structure since the early 1990s.
Te Mania Angus co-principal Tom Gubbins said good cattle structure had a direct impact on producer profitability.
“Objectively measuring structure, in conjunction with the use of performance recording (EBVs) gives us a greater picture of how that animal will perform.
“It gives us insight into the key profit drivers that affect the bottom line for commercial cattle breeders,” Mr Gubbins said.
Issues with structure can affect bull and cow longevity.
Bookings for the field day can be made with Hamish McFarlane on 0427 641606 or Tom Gubbins on 0429 952197.
