A perfect start to the season was extended to four consecutive wins with victory over Bookaar at the Terang turf oval on Saturday.
The home team made all the early going, making the most of winning the toss and getting the chance to bat first.
Opener Jay Wynd set the tone with 64 and youngster Hamish Bruckner picked up the baton and ran with it with an accomplished 64 batting at number four.
After 50 overs at the crease Terang had racked up 8-229.
Bookaar had a big job ahead of it and that quickly became tougher when it lost its first wicket with just two runs on the board.
Wickets fell regularly throughout the innings with only Fraser Lucas in the middle order offering any real resistance with a fighting innings of 61.
The relentless pressure of the Terang attack was too much for Bookaar with the final wicket of the innings falling in the 47th over with 176 on the board.
Tom McKenzie and Nathan Monk took three wickets each for Terang while Liam Geary put the brakes on with just four runs coming from his five overs.
Terang captain Brett Hunger is excited about such a successful start to the season.
“It’s great to be able to come out at the start of the season and win our first four games,” Hunger said.
“We have some guys in good form with the bat and our bowlers are working to a plan. This is virtually the same team as we had last year and that extra season on has made a difference to our young blokes, they are a lot more confident.
“Hamish Bruckner is only 18 and Tyson Hay is 16 and they are playing some really good senior cricket.
“These early wins are really important, there are no easy games this season, it is really even.”
Reigning premier Mortlake got itself back on the winners list with a 47-run win over Heytesbury Rebels.
Todd Lamont top scored with 79 in Mortlake’s total of 8-229 with Kyle McDonald then doing the job with the ball for the winners, taking three wickets to hold the Rebels to 8-182.
Noorat remain on the bottom of the ladder after losing to Pomborneit in a low-scoring encounter. Pomborneit batted first on its home ground and made 155 with Noorat’s Warren Attrill proving a handful with a five-wicket haul. Noorat fell short in the chase, bowled out for 115 with Matthew Bignell taking 4-30.
In the final game of the round Cobden beat Camperdown by three wickets with Kaplan McCann top scoring for the winners with 59.
