The US bluegrass artist is in Australia to play four shows and a festival, with Camperdown’s Tuniversal Music Group lucky enough to snag one of the shows.
“We are delighted that the band has decided to include us on their 2015 Australian tour,” Tuniversal leader Peter Daffy said.
Lewis performed on the Grammy-winning album True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe as well as the Grammy-nominated Ralph Stanley & Friends album Clinch Mountain Country.
A fiddle player, vocalist and guitarist, Lewis has released 12 albums with her musical partner, mandolin player Tom Rozum. Together they were Grammy-nominated in 1995 for their album The Oak & The Laurel.
Lewis has been described by the International Bluegrass Music Association as “one of the pre-eminent bluegrass and Americana artists of our time”.
Daffy said the gig was “a great opportunity especially for our young and not-so-young musicians to see some amazing artists right here in (Camperdown)”.
Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands play at the Theatre Royal on November 19. Doors open 7.30pm. Tickets from the Corangamite Shire office in Camperdown.
