The Taipans shot 22 points in the first term, however the Lakers fought back to win 87-57.
In the second quarter the Lakers hit back, shooting 20 points to the Taipans’ six.
The Taipans fell further adrift in the fourth quarter, with the Mount Gambier team sinking 32 points to seal the win.
Taipans guard Jarryd Watene was in fine form, shooting 25 points, including six three-pointers.
Mac Thornton and Nathan Meade shot 10 points each for the Taipans, with Sammy Doolan sinking seven.
Next weekend the Warrnambool Mermaids and Seahawks have a double header at home, playing Horsham Hornets on Saturday, and Stawell Wildcats on Sunday at St Joseph’s Primary School.
The Taipans have a bye next weekend and the Terang Tornadoes will meet Hornets and Wildcats at home.
