A songbook full of stories

US singer-songwriter and author Kristina Olsen will release her new e-book and double album at Pippies By The Bay in Warrnambool tonight.

Touring Australia to promote the combination of stories and songs that is her 11th album, Olsen will perform a show of the same artistic combination to her south-west fans.

As a superb multi-instrumentalist whose talents include the acoustic guitar, steel-body slide guitar, saxophone, concertina and piano, the award-winning songwriter and her big bluesy voice are sure to entertain an intimate crowd at the Flagstaff Hill venue.

Olsen's musical calling has taken her on a worldwide journey, including major international folk and contemporary music festival stages.

Last seen in the south-west region this year during one of her regular appearances at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the Californian then revealed her newest work combining literature with music would feature travel stories and conclude each chapter with a different song.

Through her music, song and stories, Olsen has been recognised as a communicator and social commentator, influencing cover performances of her songs from artists including Eric Bibb, Fairport Convention, Maddy Prior, Mary Coughlan and Mollie O'Brien.
