The London Olympic team member and dual Commonwealth Games goal medallist beat out fellow South Australian Alexander Edmonson and last years winner Oliver Kent-Spark to claim the historic victory on Saturday.
He completed the 278.6-kilometre event in 7 hours, 27 minutes and 49 seconds.
“To join such a big list of winners of this race is pretty special,” an elated Sunderland told The Standard.
Lauretta Hanson, from Fern Hill near Kyneton, took out the inaugural Women’s category with a time of 7 hours, 50 minutes and 57 seconds.
“The longest race I’ve done this season was about 40 kilometres, I’m stoked,” she said.
