Walkers in the annual Walk4Wellness left The Pavilion at 10.30am for either a two kilometre or five kilometre return journey along the beach front walk. The event forms forms part of Walktober, Celebrage and Mental Health Week celebrations.
Archie Graham Community Centre Coordinator Mary McLeod said the walk aimed to promote well-being and easy ways people could start to make improvements to their health.
She said walking is the perfect entry-level exercise.
“For people who don’t exercise regularly, walking is the cheapest, easiest and most social way to improve their health,” she said.
“Everyone knows the positive effects that exercise and social contact have in leading a healthy life.
“Walk4Wellness is about making it as easy as possible for everyone to go for a walk. It was an opportunity to have a bit of exercise, a chat and a bite to eat.”
