They are the ones who make things happen. They go about their work diligently, sometimes in the background, sometimes leading from the front.
They keep clubs and groups running, who lead community campaigns and fundraisers.
And now it’s time to recognise their outstanding efforts with a nomination in the 2016 Australia Day Awards.
Nominations are now open for the awards which recognise outstanding contributions to the local community during 2015 or over a longer timeframe.
Warrnambool Australia Day Advisory Committee chairman Andrew Suggett called on all residents to reflect on the efforts of those who strive to make the city a better place.
“It’s the people who make a place vibrant and in Warrnambool there are many instances of people who are going ‘above and beyond’ to improve the lives of Warrnambool residents,” he said.
“A nomination for a Warrnambool Australia Day Award is tremendous acknowledgement for a local champion and their outstanding efforts on behalf of the community.
“Suitable candidates might be making contributions in fields including education, health, fund-raising, voluntary services, sports, arts, the environment or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of the community.
Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (aged 16-30), Community Event of the Year and Local Achiever.
You can nominate someone online at www.yoursaywarrnambool.com.au or collect a nomination form from the Civic Centre, 25 Liebig Street, Warrnambool.
Nominations close on Monday November 30.
Award presentations will be made at Warrnambool City Council’s Australia Day event at the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens.
