THE Sisters Hall doesn’t often host gigs these days, let alone shows featuring ARIA Award-winning artists.
But on October 12, Mick Thomas and his backing band The Roving Commission will help blow the cobwebs out of the rural hall as part of a tour with a difference.
The Off The Beaten Track Tour visits footy clubs and halls in out-of-the-way locations, with Mick Thomas & The Roving Commission being joined by Sal Kimber & The Rolling Wheel.
The former Weddings Parties Anything frontman was approached by the Keilembete Music Committee (KMC), which had representatives in the right place at the right time with a request.
Committee member Lachie Lee said he and his wife Jane had been hosting KMC events for the past three years in their own home near Terang.
“We’ve got a pretty big lounge,” he said.
“We had about 90 people — we squeezed them in — and did a show for people who are interested in music and are more mature.”
After seeing Thomas in action at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the KMC emailed the musician in the hopes of taking their lounge room concerts and “doing the same thing but ramping it up a notch”, Mr Lee said. “He replied and put us on to this Off The Beaten Track tour, which wasn’t up and running but there was something in the wind.”
All 160 tickets for The Sisters Hall show have sold out.
Mr Lee said The Sisters Hall was an ideal location for local patrons.
“But there’s also something about the ambience of the place: the rural setting, the lone pine out the front, the history that goes back well into the last century.
“It really touches a chord with us.”
