The Emmanuel College student’s Victorian under 17 squad last week won the challengers pool of the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships.
The Victorian team defeated two Queensland sides and another groups of Victorians, as well as squads from New South Wales, South Australia. Lauryn and nine teammates also defeated one New Zealand side, but fell to another in the round robin tournament’s grand final.
Since April, the 15-year-old has travelled to Melbourne each weekend to train with the state squad.
Lauryn’s father Bruce Keeley also tasted success at the national championships, as an assistant coach of the under 17 Victorian boys’ side, which finished with a silver medal.
