WARRNAMBOOL’S main street will have a brighter, festive look for Christmas after repairs to vandalised fairy lights.
City council workers last weekend checked the condition of lights which were hung on Liebig Street trees about a decade ago which had fallen into disrepair.
Most of them are not operating.
In response to a question from Cr Peter Hulin the city infrastructure director Peter Robertson said all the lights would be in action again by Christmas to improve the street’s image.
“There has been a bit of vandalism and some of the plugs were pulled out,” Mr Robertson said.
The lights were hung initially in a joint project between the council and traders, with electricity coming from business premises.
But some operators later unplugged the lights, preferring not to have extra drain on their electricity bills.
