Now Australia is getting acquainted with his son, who has been wowing audiences on The X Factor.
Jo’s 19-year-old son Cyrus Villanueva is through to the third week of the music competition show and his second-week cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game is turning heads.
It debuted at #6 on the Australian iTunes chart on Monday and even impressed Isaak himself, who is a judge on the show.
Vill left Warrnambool more than 20 years ago but prior to that was a regular covers performer at the Grand Hotel, the Tatts, and the Lady Bay, among other venues.
He and Cyrus travelled from their home in Wollongong in January to perform together at the Benefit For Boyd concert at the Whalers Hotel in Warrnambool.
It was Vill’s first time playing in the south-west for two decades and was an opportunity for him to help out his old mate, fellow muso Boyd Advincula, who is battling cancer.
