At a ceremony on Tuesday 34 staff members were recognised for milestone years of service, clocking up a combined 420 years with the organisation.
The hospital used its foundation day celebrations, which this year marks 143 years since the formation of the Sisters of St John of God, to recognise its high achievers. Nurse Mary Reid has worked at St John of God since 1978 and gave birth to her three children at the hospital.
She said it was the friendly staff and challenge of the role that kept her coming back to work each day.
“I really enjoy it. I just enjoy nursing and I like dealing with the patients and the staff and the doctors. There’s always some challenge every day,” she said.
“It’s a really good place to work, that’s why I’ve stayed for so long. Nursing is good, but it’s good to have a good workplace.”
