Dean Barnes, 34, of Hamilton Highway, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to attempted theft of a motor car and tampering with a vehicle.
Overnight on September 13 last year an unlocked car in Terang's Strong Street was tampered with and blood samples returned a positive match to Barnes.
In December last year Barnes was jailed for 10 months after a drunken home invasion in Warrnambool on September 13 when he was looking for petrol.
Since leaving jail in July, Barnes had complied with a community corrections order and a report this week indicated positive engagement.
Magistrate John Lesser said Barnes was going well and did not have to come back to court for monitoring but needed to be mindful of staying out of trouble.
